For the first time ever a trophy was awarded to the top wine area in South Africa, based on a specific winegrowing terrain that produced most of the wines that went to the final round for a SA Terroir National Certificate, as well as the number of wines that received a National Certificate. The first winner of the Novare Trophy for SA Terroir Top Wine Area is the Wellington ward, with seven finalists and two national winners (Diemersfontein Pinotage and Doolhof Petit Verdot).

Ek was besig om die tannienstruktuur van ’n Welbedacht Pinotage 2007 te ontleed toe iets ’n piep-kwak-geluid maak en op my skoot spring. Schalk Burger snr, baas van die Welbedacht-plaas, het my verbaasde reaksie met verbasing van sy eie aangegluur.

  Above can be seen the devastation caused by the Cape Wild Boars on our Estate’s very famous Welbedacht Cricket Oval. These Cape Wild Boars, due to the very dry conditions, come out of the Groenberg Mountain at night to feed.

Columbit Corks South Africa has launched a landmark initiative that will work towards reducing their wine clients' carbon footprint. The project is Columbit's first as the inaugural wine industry member of the United Nations Global Compact for corporate responsibility.
